Possible Causes
NTC temperature sensor short circuit, sensor wiring shorted to chassis, failed control board interpreting low resistance as high temperature, connector contamination causing low resistance path
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power and allow the oven to cool completely. Overheating can damage internal insulation and wiring.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Access the NTC sensor at the rear of the cavity. Check for melted insulation or wires touching the metal chassis or each other.
- Measure resistance: At room temperature, disconnect the sensor from the control board and measure resistance with a multimeter. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Compare with the expected value from the service manual if available.
- Check for shorts: With the sensor unplugged, check continuity between each sensor lead and the oven chassis. Any continuity indicates a short to ground in the harness.
- Replace components: Replace the NTC temperature sensor and/or wiring harness if shorted. Ensure grommets and insulation are intact where the harness passes through metal panels.
- Control board evaluation: If the sensor and wiring are correct but E1 persists, the control PCB's sensor input circuit may be damaged. Inspect for burn marks or cracked solder joints. Replacement of the control board is recommended.
