Possible Causes
Heavy grease buildup on oven floor or walls, Spilled food on bake element, Using inappropriate cookware or liners, New oven burn-in residues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven, open windows, and avoid opening the door fully until smoke subsides to prevent a rush of smoke into the room.
- Inspect interior: Once cool, remove racks and inspect the oven floor, walls, and elements for burnt-on spills or grease.
- Manual cleaning: Use a non-abrasive oven cleaner approved for your Dacor model or a baking soda paste to remove heavy residues. Avoid spraying directly on elements or sensors.
- Element cleaning: Gently wipe elements with a damp cloth when cool to remove loose debris. Do not scrub aggressively or bend the elements.
- Burn-in new oven: For new installations, run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing oils, following the user manual.
Warning: Do not line the oven bottom with foil; this can trap heat, damage the enamel, and affect temperature control.
