Oven will not heat in any mode, display and fan work but temperature never rises
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the oven from mains power at the breaker before removing any panels. Allow the oven to cool completely.
- Check power and settings: Confirm the oven is in a heating mode (e.g. conventional, fan-assisted) and not in demo mode. Try another mode to see if any element heats.
- Inspect lower heating element: Remove the oven from the cabinet if built-in. Take off the rear panel. Visually inspect the lower (bottom) heating element for blisters, cracks, or burn marks. If damaged, it must be replaced.
- Test continuity: Disconnect the element spade connectors. Use a multimeter on ohms to check continuity across the element terminals. A good De Dietrich lower element typically reads between 20–60 Ω. If open (infinite resistance), replace the element.
- Check wiring and connectors: Inspect the wiring harness from the element to the main control board for heat damage or loose spades. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Check safety thermostat: Locate the safety cut-out thermostat (usually on the top of the oven cavity or rear frame). Test for continuity. If open and not resettable, replace it.
- Control board relay: If the element and thermostat test good but no voltage is supplied to the element when heating is requested, the power relay on the main PCB may be faulty. This typically requires board repair or replacement by a qualified technician.
If unsure about live voltage testing or removing the oven from cabinetry, contact a professional technician.
