Possible Causes
Failed tangential cooling fan motor, blocked cooling air channels, faulty cooling fan thermostat, defective control board output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and allow the oven to cool. Do not operate the oven if the control panel overheats.
- Check air vents: Ensure the front and top ventilation slots are not blocked by cabinetry or objects. De Dietrich built-in ovens require specific clearances.
- Listen for fan: In normal operation, the cooling fan should run during and after cooking. If it never runs, suspect the fan or its control.
- Access cooling fan: Remove the oven from the cabinet and take off the top cover. Locate the tangential cooling fan assembly.
- Inspect and test: Check for obstructions in the fan blades. Spin by hand; it should move freely. Measure motor resistance; an open circuit indicates failure. Replace the fan if defective.
- Thermostat/control: Some models use a thermostat to trigger the cooling fan. Test the thermostat for continuity when warm. If the fan and thermostat are good but the fan never receives power, the main control board output may be faulty.
