Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Pinched or shorted sensor wiring harness, Moisture intrusion at sensor connector, Failed EOC sensor input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before servicing.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the oven temperature sensor from inside the cavity. Check for visible damage, melted insulation, or signs of moisture at the connector.
- Measure resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance at room temperature. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted or far out of spec.
- Check for shorts to chassis: With the sensor removed, check each sensor lead to the oven chassis with a multimeter. There should be no continuity. If there is, inspect the harness for pinched or rubbed-through insulation and repair or replace.
- Control board diagnosis: If sensor and wiring are good, the EOC may be falsely detecting a short. Replace the EOC if no wiring issues are found.
- Final test: After replacing parts, restore power and run a bake cycle to verify the F4 code does not return.
