Possible Causes

Food or grease buildup on elements, Dripping onto bottom panel, Failing insulation or wiring overheating, Foreign object on element

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If heavy smoke occurs, turn off the oven and open windows. Do not leave the oven unattended.

  • Inspect interior: After cooling, remove racks and check for heavy grease or spills on the bottom, sides, and elements. Clean with appropriate oven cleaner (avoid spraying directly on elements or sensors).
  • Check elements and wiring: Inspect elements for hot spots or burning, and wiring for signs of overheating. Replace any damaged parts.
  • Run a burn-off cycle: After cleaning, run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 20–30 minutes to burn off remaining residues, monitoring for abnormal smoke.
