Oven overheats, temperature rises far above set point, food burns quickly

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Allow the oven to cool fully before working.

• Check the temperature sensor: Remove the rear cover to access the sensor wiring. Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. If resistance is significantly lower than specification (indicating a short) or does not change when gently warmed, replace the sensor with an Essentials-compatible NTC probe.
• Inspect sensor wiring: Look for pinched, melted, or shorted wires between the sensor and the control board. Repair any damaged insulation and ensure the connector is firmly seated on the control module.
• Check for stuck relay: On models with an electronic control, inspect the power relay on the PCB (often labeled for bake or main heater). If contacts are welded closed (signs of overheating or charring), the control board must be replaced or professionally repaired.
• Mechanical thermostat models: If your Essentials oven uses a capillary thermostat (knob with sensing bulb), inspect the bulb inside the cavity for kinks or damage. If the thermostat does not click on/off when turning through temperature range, replace the thermostat.
• Verify with an oven thermometer: After repair, use an independent oven thermometer to confirm that the actual temperature matches the set temperature within a reasonable tolerance.
