Possible Causes
Open bake element, Open grill/broil element, Faulty power relay on main control board, Loose or burnt wiring at element terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing any internal components.
- 1. Confirm symptom: Try both bake and grill functions. Note which functions heat and which do not. If none heat, suspect supply or control. If only one function fails, suspect that specific element or its circuit.
- 2. Inspect elements: Visually inspect the bake and grill elements inside the cavity for blisters, cracks, or burn marks. A visibly broken element must be replaced.
- 3. Check element continuity: Remove the oven from the cabinet and access the rear. Disconnect the element terminals and test each element with a multimeter. A healthy element typically reads between 15–40 Ω depending on rating. If open (OL), replace the element.
- 4. Inspect wiring and terminals: Look for burnt spade connectors or discoloured wires at the element and at the control board. Clean or replace damaged terminals and ensure tight connections.
- 5. Control board check: If elements and wiring are good, the main control board may not be switching power to the elements. Check for burnt tracks or damaged relays. Board replacement is usually required if a relay has failed.
If you are not comfortable removing the oven or working with mains wiring, arrange service with a Fisher & Paykel technician.
