Bake element not heating but broil works

Advertisements

Possible Causes

Failed bake element, Burned wire at bake element terminal, Faulty bake relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before touching any wiring or elements.

  • Visual inspection: Look at the bake element for breaks, blisters, or burn marks. Any visible damage means it should be replaced.
  • Continuity test: Remove the element mounting screws, pull it forward, disconnect the wires, and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open reading means the element is bad.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the wires and terminals for burns or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged wires using high-temperature connectors.
  • Control board check: If the element and wiring are good, the bake relay on the EOC may have failed. Replace the control board.
