Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck relay on control board, Poor oven cavity cooling/blocked vents

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely.

  • Check for obvious overheating: Confirm that vents are not blocked by foil, pans, or cabinets. Remove any foil from the oven floor that can trap heat.
  • Test the oven sensor: Access the sensor probe inside the oven (usually on the back wall). Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. With power off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~70°F/21°C) a GE sensor should read about 1080 Ω (±10%). Replace if far out of range or open/shorted.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Replace control board if needed: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the EOC may be misreading temperature or leaving the bake relay stuck on. Replace the GE electronic oven control board.
