Possible Causes
Door lock motor not returning, Warped door latch from high heat, Faulty door lock switch feedback
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the oven to cool completely; the lock will not release while the cavity is hot. Turn off power at the breaker before attempting manual release.
- Wait and reset: After cooling, restore power and press CANCEL/OFF. Wait several minutes to see if the lock motor cycles and unlocks the door.
- Manual unlock: Remove the range back panel or top cover to access the lock assembly. Locate the manual release lever or rod and move it to the unlock position while gently pulling the door.
- Inspect latch: Check for bent latch or strike. Replace the GE door lock assembly if it binds or the motor does not move.
