Possible Causes
Weak bake igniter, No gas supply to oven burner, Failed gas safety valve, Faulty oven control sending no power to igniter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and electrical power before servicing. Gas leaks are hazardous.
- Listen and observe: Start a bake cycle and listen for the igniter. If it glows but the burner does not light within 60–90 seconds, the igniter is likely too weak.
- Measure igniter current: With a clamp meter and proper safety, measure igniter current draw. If below manufacturer spec, replace the GE bake igniter.
- Check gas supply: Ensure the gas shutoff valve is open and other gas appliances work.
- Test gas valve: If a new igniter glows but no gas flows, the oven safety valve may be defective and should be replaced.
