Possible Causes
Open-circuit top heating element, Burned wiring to upper element, Faulty relay on main control board, Loose spade terminals on element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the oven from mains. Elements operate at full mains voltage.
Steps to check:
- Remove the oven back panel (after pulling the oven out) to access the top heating element terminals.
- Inspect the wiring for burns, melted insulation, or loose connectors. Tighten or replace spade terminals as needed.
- Disconnect the element and measure its resistance. A typical Gram top element is between 20–60 Ω. If the meter shows OL (open), the element is faulty.
- If the element tests good, check for 230 V AC at the element terminals when the oven is commanded to heat (this test must be done by a competent person with power restored). If no voltage is present, the relay or PCB is likely defective.
- Replace the upper heating element if open, or the main control board if it fails to supply power.
Warning: Live voltage testing is hazardous. If you are not trained, do not perform energized measurements; call a technician.
