Possible Causes
Mechanical thermostat contacts welded closed, Shorted temperature sensor, Faulty main control board not regulating power, Miswired thermostat or sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the oven at the mains immediately if it is overheating. Allow it to cool fully before inspection.
- Check temperature control:
- On mechanical thermostat models, test continuity across the thermostat at room temperature with the knob in the OFF position; there should be no continuity.
- If continuity is present when OFF, the thermostat is stuck closed and must be replaced.
- Test sensor on electronic models:
- Measure NTC resistance at room temperature and compare to Hoover specifications.
- If the sensor reads very low resistance (shorted), replace it.
- Inspect wiring:
- Ensure the thermostat or sensor is wired correctly according to the wiring diagram.
- If control components are OK: The main control board may be driving the elements continuously; replacement by a technician is recommended.
