Oven display works but heating elements do not energize, relay clicking may be heard but no heat
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Isolate the oven from mains before removing covers. Capacitors on the PCB may retain charge; avoid touching tracks and components unnecessarily.
- Confirm symptom: Set oven to a high temperature (e.g. 220°C). If the fan runs and the thermostat indicator lights but no heat is produced, suspect relay or power path.
- Check supply to elements: With power off, access the rear of the oven and locate the element terminals. Inspect for burnt or loose spade connectors.
- Access main PCB: Remove the control panel or top cover to expose the main board. Identify the heater relays (usually larger rectangular components).
- Inspect solder joints: Look for cracked or ringed solder joints on relay pins. Reflow with a soldering iron if you are competent to do so.
- Check relay operation: With power restored and extreme caution, a technician can measure voltage at the relay output when heat is demanded. If the relay coil is energised but no output, the relay is defective.
- Replace PCB or relay: On many Hotpoint ovens the relay is part of the PCB assembly and not supplied separately. Replace the entire main control board if the relay or driver circuit has failed.
Due to mains voltages and PCB work, this repair is best left to a professional if you are unsure.
