Possible Causes
Tripped overheat thermostat, Failed non-resettable thermal cut-out, Loose connection on safety stat, Blocked cooling airflow causing overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power and allow the oven to cool fully. Components near the top and rear may remain hot for some time.
- Locate safety thermostat: Many Hotpoint ovens have a small disc-type thermostat mounted on the top of the oven cavity or rear panel, often with two terminals.
- Check for reset button: Some models use a manual-reset thermostat with a small red button in the centre. Press firmly to reset. If it clicks, it had tripped.
- Test continuity: With wires removed, measure across the thermostat. It should show continuity when cool. An open circuit on a non-resettable type means it must be replaced.
- Inspect cooling paths: Check that the cooling fan operates (see F05) and that vents are not blocked by insulation or debris.
- Replace faulty thermostat: Fit the correct Hotpoint safety thermostat or thermal cut-out, transferring any insulation sleeves and mounting it firmly against the metal surface.
