Possible Causes
Worn or burnt contacts in selector switch, Broken cam inside switch, Loose knob shaft, Misaligned switch mounting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains before removing the control panel or knobs.
- Remove knob: Pull the function selector knob straight off the shaft.
- Inspect shaft and switch: Check for play in the shaft or signs of melting around the switch body.
- Test contacts: With the switch exposed, use a multimeter to check continuity between the appropriate terminals in each position (refer to wiring diagram if available).
- Replace selector switch: If contacts are intermittent or burnt, remove the switch by undoing its mounting screws and transferring wires one by one to the new Hotpoint selector switch.
- Align knob: Refit the knob in the correct orientation so that symbols match the actual functions.
