Indesit oven overheats, burning food even at low temperature settings.

Safety first: Disconnect mains power before testing components.

• 1. Check cavity temperature sensor: Locate the sensor probe inside the oven (usually at the rear or top). Remove the rear panel to access its connector. Measure resistance at room temperature and compare with Indesit specifications. If the value is very low (near short) or does not change when gently warmed, replace the sensor.
• 2. Inspect mechanical thermostat (if fitted): On knob-controlled models, remove the control panel and test the thermostat contacts with a multimeter. The contacts should open when the thermostat is turned to OFF or when heated. If they remain closed, replace the thermostat.
• 3. Check safety thermostat: Locate the overheat cut-out (usually on the top of the oven cavity). Ensure it has not been bypassed. Test for continuity; if it is permanently open and the oven still heats, the heater may be powered via a welded relay.
• 4. Examine control board relay: Inspect the PCB for a stuck or welded heater relay. If the relay contacts are fused closed, the oven will heat continuously. Replace the control board or have the relay professionally replaced.

Do not continue using an oven that overheats; it is a fire risk. If unsure, call a qualified technician.
