Possible Causes
Failed door lock motor, Stuck lock mechanism, Faulty door lock switch, EOC not sending unlock signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Allow the oven to cool completely before attempting to unlock the door manually.
- Power reset: After the oven is cool, turn power off for 5 minutes, then back on. Attempt to cancel self-clean and see if the lock releases.
- Manual release:
- On many Kenmore ranges, you can access the lock rod from the top by lifting the cooktop or removing the back panel.
- Use a flat tool or your hand to gently move the lock rod to the unlock position.
- Inspect and test lock assembly:
- Check for binding, bent parts, or broken plastic in the lock mechanism.
- Test the lock motor and switches with a multimeter; replace the door lock motor assembly if defective.
- Control board: If the lock assembly is good but the EOC never sends an unlock signal, replace the electronic oven control.
