Possible Causes
Weak bake igniter, Failed gas safety valve, Broken igniter wiring, Faulty oven thermostat/EOC output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and disconnect power before servicing. Gas leaks and ignition components are hazardous.
- Observe igniter: With power restored and gas on, set oven to bake and watch the igniter through the oven bottom panel. If it glows weakly (dull orange) for more than 90 seconds without burner ignition, the igniter is weak.
- Replace igniter:
- Turn off power and gas.
- Remove oven bottom panel and flame spreader to access the igniter.
- Disconnect the igniter wiring harness and remove mounting screws.
- Install a new bake igniter (use the correct Kenmore-compatible part), route wires away from flame, and secure connections.
- Gas valve test: If a new igniter glows strongly but the burner never lights, the gas safety valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
