Possible Causes
Open bake heating element, Failed oven temperature sensor (NTC probe), Faulty power relay on electronic control board, Loose wiring at terminal block or element connectors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the range from power at the breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.
- 1. Verify power supply: Check that the La Cornue oven is receiving full line voltage (typically 240 V for North America, 230 V in EU) at the rear terminal block. Reset any tripped breakers.
- 2. Inspect the bake element: Remove the oven racks. Visually inspect the lower bake element for blisters, cracks, or burn marks. If damaged, it must be replaced.
- 3. Test element continuity: Remove the rear access panel. Disconnect the bake element wires. Use a multimeter on ohms to check continuity; a good element typically reads 15–40 Ω. Replace if open.
- 4. Check the temperature sensor (NTC probe): Locate the sensor inside the cavity (usually at the rear upper area). With power off, disconnect its connector from the harness behind the oven. Measure resistance at room temperature; most La Cornue sensors read around 1000–1100 Ω at 20–25°C. If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- 5. Inspect wiring and control board: Check harness connections from the control board to the element and sensor. Look for heat damage or loose spades. If the element and sensor test good but no voltage is sent to the element during a bake cycle, the power relay on the electronic control board may have failed and the board should be replaced.
