Possible Causes
Faulty oven igniter (glow bar or spark igniter), No gas supply or closed gas shutoff valve, Clogged burner orifice, Failed ignition module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas at the shutoff valve and disconnect power before servicing. If you smell strong gas, ventilate the area and do not operate electrical switches; contact a professional immediately.
- 1. Verify gas supply: Confirm that the gas shutoff valve to the La Cornue range is open and that other gas appliances in the home are working.
- 2. Observe ignition: With panels in place and using proper safety, start a bake cycle and watch through the oven window. If the igniter does not glow (glow bar type) or you do not hear sparking (spark type), the igniter or ignition module may be faulty.
- 3. Inspect igniter: Remove the oven bottom panel to access the burner and igniter. Check for cracks, damage, or heavy buildup on the igniter. Replace if damaged.
- 4. Test igniter current (glow bar): Using a clamp meter and appropriate safety, measure current draw. A weak igniter may glow but not draw enough current to open the gas valve. Replace if below specification.
- 5. Clean burner and orifice: Remove the burner and clean the ports and orifice with a soft brush and compressed air. Reassemble and test.
- 6. Ignition module: If the igniter is good but there is no spark or glow, test and replace the ignition module or spark generator as needed.
