Electric oven trips the circuit breaker when heating is started.

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Disconnect power and investigate the cause before using the oven again.

• 1. Visual inspection: Remove the oven racks and inspect the visible portions of the bake and broil elements for cracks or areas where the metal sheath has split and may contact the cavity.
• 2. Check rear wiring: Remove the rear panel and inspect wiring to the elements and terminal block. Look for burned insulation, melted connectors, or signs of arcing.
• 3. Test elements to ground: With wires disconnected from the elements, use a multimeter on the highest resistance range to measure between each element terminal and the metal chassis. Any measurable continuity indicates a shorted element that must be replaced.
• 4. Inspect terminal block: Check where the power cord or conduit connects to the oven. Tighten loose screws and replace any burned lugs or the entire terminal block if damaged.
• 5. Dry moisture: If the oven was recently cleaned with excessive water or steam, allow it to dry thoroughly before retesting. Moisture can cause temporary shorts.
