Possible Causes
Stuck-closed main oven thermostat relay on PCB, Faulty overheat safety thermostat (cut-out) not opening, Shorted temperature sensor causing incorrect reading, Relay contacts welded on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If the oven is overheating, switch off power immediately at the wall and consumer unit. Do not continue using the appliance until the fault is resolved.
- Visual inspection: After cooling, remove the rear panel. Locate the main oven overheat thermostat (usually a small round device with two terminals mounted on the rear of the cavity). Check for signs of overheating or discoloration.
- Test overheat thermostat: With power off, disconnect one terminal and test continuity. At room temperature, most cut-outs should show continuity. If it is open and has a manual reset button, press the button. If it will not reset or repeatedly trips, replace it.
- Check temperature sensor: Test the main oven NTC sensor resistance. A shorted sensor can cause the board to under-read temperature and overheat the oven. Replace if out of spec.
- Control board relays: Inspect the PCB (if accessible) for burnt or welded relay contacts controlling the main oven element. If relays are damaged, the entire board should be replaced.
- Do not bypass safety devices: Never bypass the overheat thermostat or sensor; this is extremely dangerous.
