Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Shorted oven control relay on PCB, Poor airflow around oven causing overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the breaker immediately if the oven is overheating or will not shut off.

  • Allow to cool: Let the oven cool completely. Once cool, reset power at the breaker for 5 minutes and test a low-temperature bake (e.g., 300°F/150°C).
  • Check temperature sensor resistance: Unplug power. Remove the rear panel or access from inside the cavity (back wall). Disconnect the oven temperature sensor harness. Measure resistance with a multimeter: at room temperature (~77°F/25°C) it should be around 1080–1100 Ω. If reading is far off or open/shorted, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, pinched wires, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the oven control board relay may be stuck closed, causing overheating. Inspect the board for burn marks or melted relay. Replace the control board if defective.
  • Avoid self-clean until fixed: Do not run self-clean cycles until the over-temperature issue is resolved, as it can worsen damage.
