Possible Causes
Weak or failed bake igniter, Faulty gas safety valve, Blocked burner ports, Low gas pressure or gas supply issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and electrical power before servicing. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and do not ignite any flames; contact your gas supplier or a professional immediately.
- Observe ignition: With panels in place and power ON, start a bake cycle and look through the oven window. The igniter should glow bright orange within 30–60 seconds and the burner should light. If the igniter glows but the burner does not light, the igniter may be too weak.
- Test igniter: Disconnect power. Access the bake igniter under the oven floor panel. Remove and test resistance (typically 40–400 Ω depending on type). A cracked or open igniter must be replaced.
- Check burner and ports: Clean any debris or grease from the burner and its ports using a soft brush. Ensure flame can travel along the burner.
- Gas valve: If a new igniter glows but the burner still does not light, the gas safety valve may be faulty. This should be diagnosed and replaced by a qualified gas technician.
