Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker immediately if the oven is heating uncontrollably or will not shut off.
- Power cycle: Turn the breaker off for 5–10 minutes, then restore power. If F1 returns quickly, proceed with checks.
- Check oven temperature sensor: With power off, access the rear of the oven or inside rear wall to locate the temperature sensor probe. Disconnect its harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~70°F / 21°C), it should read about 1050–1100 Ω. If it is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- Inspect keypad: If F1 appears when pressing certain keys, the keypad may be shorted. Remove the control panel and inspect the keypad ribbon cable and connector. Reseat or replace the keypad assembly if damaged.
- Replace EOC if needed: If the sensor tests good and keypad appears normal, the EOC is likely defective. Replace the electronic oven control (clock/timer) board specific to your Magic Chef model.
When to call a technician: If you detect overheating, burning smells, or cannot stop the oven from heating, shut off power and contact a professional immediately.
