Possible Causes

Open bake heating element, Burnt wire at bake element terminal, Failed bake relay on EOC, Faulty selector switch (older mechanical models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify the oven is cold before touching any components.

  • Visual inspection of bake element: Remove oven racks and inspect the lower bake element for blisters, cracks, or burn-through spots. Any visible damage means it should be replaced.
  • Check element continuity: Remove the rear panel or unscrew the element from inside the oven and gently pull it forward. Disconnect the wires and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical 240V bake element should read 15–40 Ω. Replace if open.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for burnt or loose wires at the element terminals and at the EOC or selector switch. Repair with high-temperature wire and proper connectors.
  • Test voltage (advanced): With power on and extreme caution, a technician can verify 240V at the element terminals when bake is selected. No voltage with a good element indicates a failed relay or selector switch.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable testing live voltage or removing the oven from the wall, have a professional complete the diagnosis.
