Possible Causes

Open (broken) oven temperature sensor, damaged sensor wiring harness, loose sensor connector at control board, failed EOC sensor input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing the oven interior or rear panel.

  • Locate the sensor: Inside the oven cavity, find the thin metal rod (temperature sensor) usually mounted on the back wall with two screws.
  • Check connections: Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. Ensure the plug is fully seated and not burnt.
  • Test resistance: With the sensor unplugged and power OFF, use a multimeter set to ohms. At room temperature (~70°F / 21°C), a typical Maytag sensor should read about 1050–1100 Ω. An infinite or very high reading indicates an open sensor.
  • Inspect harness: If the sensor tests good, check the harness from the sensor connector to the control board for cuts, pinched spots, or burnt pins.
  • Replace as needed: If the sensor is open or out of range, replace the oven temperature sensor. If wiring and sensor are good but F1-3 persists, the EOC is likely defective and should be replaced.
