Possible Causes
Stuck membrane key, liquid intrusion into keypad, damaged keypad ribbon, failed touch panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before removing the control panel.
- Check for stuck keys: Press each button individually. If one feels different (mushy, no click, or physically stuck), it may be shorted.
- Dry out moisture: If liquid was recently spilled on the control, leave power off and allow the panel to dry for several hours. Do not use heat guns or hair dryers directly on the panel.
- Inspect ribbon cable: Remove the control panel and inspect the keypad ribbon for discoloration, cracks, or corrosion at the connector. Clean contacts gently with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab.
- Replace keypad: If F2-1 persists, replace the keypad/touch panel assembly. On some Maytag models, the keypad is integrated with the control board and the entire assembly must be replaced.
