Possible Causes
Failed door latch switch, misaligned door latch mechanism, broken latch motor, damaged latch wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before accessing the latch assembly. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Check door movement: Open and close the door firmly. Listen for the latch engaging. If the door feels loose or does not latch, the mechanism may be misaligned.
- Access latch: Remove the top panel or rear panel (depending on model) to access the door latch motor and switch assembly.
- Inspect linkage: Look for bent rods, broken plastic pieces, or obstructions preventing full latch travel.
- Test switches: With a multimeter, test continuity of the latch switches while manually moving the latch. Switches should change state (open/closed) as the latch moves.
- Replace latch assembly: If switches do not operate correctly or the motor does not move when commanded (with power restored and extreme caution), replace the complete door latch motor/switch assembly.
