Possible Causes
Heavy grease buildup on cavity surfaces, Spilled food on elements, Foil or plastic left inside, Incorrect cookware causing spillage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames, turn off the oven immediately and keep the door closed to smother the fire. Do not use water on grease fires.
- Cool and inspect: Once cool, remove racks and trays. Inspect elements and cavity surfaces for heavy grease or burnt-on food.
- Deep clean: Use Miele-approved oven cleaner or run a pyrolytic cleaning cycle if your model supports it (after removing accessories and heavy debris).
- Avoid foil on base: Do not line the oven base with foil, as it can trap grease and overheat elements.
- Use proper trays: For fatty foods, use deep trays to catch drips and prevent them from reaching elements.
Persistent smoke after thorough cleaning may indicate a failing element or insulation contamination, which should be checked by a technician.
