Possible Causes

Heavy grease build-up on cavity surfaces, Spilled food on elements, Foil or packaging left inside, Blocked ventilation causing localized overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If there is heavy smoke, switch off the oven, open windows, and keep the door closed until smoke subsides. Do not leave the oven unattended.

Steps to check:

  • Inspect cavity: When cool, remove shelves and trays and inspect for burnt-on grease or food.
  • Clean thoroughly: Use a suitable oven cleaner (non-caustic for catalytic liners) to clean the interior, especially around elements and the base.
  • Remove foreign objects: Ensure no plastic, cardboard, or foil is touching elements or the fan.
  • Burn-off cycle: After cleaning, run the oven empty at a moderate temperature (e.g., 200°C) for 30–45 minutes to burn off residues, with good ventilation.
