How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the oven at the wall isolator and unplug or turn off the circuit breaker before any work. Allow the oven to cool completely.
Step-by-step checks:
- Power reset: Turn off power for 5 minutes, then restore. If E1 reappears immediately, continue with checks.
- Locate the temperature sensor: Inside most Morphy Richards built-in ovens, the sensor is a thin metal probe at the rear or top of the cavity, secured with 1–2 screws.
- Inspect the probe and wiring: Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the probe forward. Check for burnt, cut, or pinched wires and loose connectors where the sensor harness passes through the rear panel.
- Test the sensor with a multimeter: Disconnect the sensor plug. Measure resistance at room temperature (typically 1–1.1 kΩ for many Morphy Richards NTC sensors, but consult the service sheet if available). An infinite reading (OL) indicates an open circuit.
- Check harness and PCB connector: If the sensor tests OK, inspect the harness from the sensor to the main control board for breaks or corrosion. Reseat the connector on the control PCB.
- Replace faulty parts: If the sensor is open or far out of spec, replace the oven temperature sensor probe. If wiring and sensor are good but E1 persists, the electronic control board may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable removing the oven from the cabinet or testing live circuits, contact an authorised Morphy Richards service centre.
