Possible Causes
Spillage on elements burning off, Loose wiring connection arcing, Damaged insulation near elements, New-oven protective oils burning off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy or you see flames, turn off power immediately and keep the door closed. Use a fire extinguisher rated for electrical fires if needed.
Steps:
- Initial burn-in: For new or recently repaired ovens, run empty at 200–220°C for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off residues.
- Inspect elements: After cooling and isolating power, check elements for heavy baked-on grease or spills. Clean with appropriate oven cleaner (avoid spraying directly on elements).
- Check wiring: Remove rear cover and inspect for discoloured or melted wires near elements and terminal block. Tighten or replace as needed.
- Persistent smell: If the smell persists and is electrical (sharp, acrid), stop using the oven and have a technician inspect the wiring and electronic control board.
