Neff oven will not heat, display shows E001 shortly after turning on any cooking function
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the oven at the mains isolator or consumer unit and allow it to cool completely before working on it.
- Power reset: Turn off power for 5–10 minutes, then restore power and test. Sometimes a one-off overheat event can latch the error.
- Check ventilation: Ensure cabinet cut-outs and ventilation grills around the Neff oven are not blocked by panels, foil, or stored items. Overheating can trigger the safety thermostat.
- Inspect cooling fan operation: Start a low-temperature function and listen for the internal cooling fan (top/rear of cavity). If it does not run, the oven may overheat quickly and show E001. A failed cooling fan motor or fan control on the PCB is likely.
- Test safety thermostat (thermal cut-out): Access the top of the oven (remove from housing if necessary). Locate the safety thermostat on the top panel or rear. With power disconnected, test continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a tripped or failed thermostat that usually must be replaced.
- Inspect heating elements: Look for visible damage, hot spots, or distortion on the top grill element and rear fan element. A shorted element can cause rapid overheating.
If the error returns immediately after reset, or if the cooling fan does not run, replacement of the safety thermostat and/or cooling fan assembly is recommended. Contact a qualified technician if you are not comfortable removing the oven from the cabinet.
