Possible Causes

Temperature sensor drifted out of calibration, sensor shorted to chassis, faulty oven thermostat relay on control PCB, cooling fan not operating causing overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate the oven from the mains supply. Allow it to cool fully before inspection.

  • Check cavity temperature: If the oven is clearly running much hotter than the set temperature, suspect the sensor or control.
  • Inspect temperature sensor mounting: Inside the oven cavity, locate the sensor probe. Ensure it is firmly fixed and not touching metal liners or elements, which can cause false readings.
  • Test sensor resistance: With power off, access the rear of the oven and disconnect the sensor. Measure resistance at room temperature and compare with expected values. If significantly out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Verify cooling fan operation: On many New World built-in ovens, a tangential cooling fan runs when the oven heats. With power restored, briefly start the oven and listen for the fan above the cavity. If it does not run, switch off power and inspect the cooling fan motor, wiring, and thermal cut-outs.
  • Control PCB relay: If the sensor is correct and the fan works, the control PCB may be sticking the heater relay on, causing overheating. This requires PCB replacement by a competent person.
