Possible Causes

Mechanical thermostat contacts welded closed (on older knob models), shorted temperature sensor, failed control PCB not regulating heater

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the oven and isolate from mains. Do not continue using an overheating oven.

  • Check temperature behaviour: Set the oven to a low temperature (e.g., 120°C) and monitor with an oven thermometer. If it climbs far above the set point, the control is not regulating.
  • Mechanical thermostat test: On models with a capillary thermostat, remove the control panel and test the thermostat contacts with a meter while turning the knob. If contacts remain closed regardless of setting, replace the thermostat.
  • Electronic sensor test: On electronic models, test the NTC sensor resistance. Replace if shorted or out of range.
  • Control PCB: If sensor/thermostat is good, the PCB may be driving the element continuously and will need replacement.
