Possible Causes

Grease or food ingress behind knobs, Heat damage to plastic knob, Worn gas tap lubrication (gas models), Corroded selector switch spindle

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: For gas taps, any internal lubrication or replacement should be done by a qualified gas engineer. Isolate power and gas before work.

  • 1. Remove knobs: Pull the control knobs straight off the spindles.
  • 2. Clean fascia: Wipe away grease and debris from around the spindle openings.
  • 3. Inspect knobs: Replace any melted or distorted knobs with Rangemaster originals.
  • 4. Light lubrication (electric selector only): For electric selector switches, a tiny amount of suitable electrical lubricant on the spindle (not inside the switch) can ease movement.
  • 5. Gas taps: If a gas tap is stiff, have it serviced or replaced by a Gas Safe engineer; do not attempt to dismantle it yourself.
