Possible Causes

Failed overheat thermostat, Stuck-closed oven relay on control board, Cooling fan not running, Blocked ventilation around oven

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate the cooker from the mains. Surfaces may be extremely hot; allow full cooling before working.

  • 1. Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the cooker as per Rangemaster installation instructions. Remove any items blocking vents or air inlets/outlets.
  • 2. Listen for cooling fan operation: When the oven is on, a cooling fan should run (on many Rangemaster electric models). If it does not run at all, suspect the cooling fan motor or its supply.
  • 3. Inspect the overheat thermostat: Remove the top panel to access the safety thermostat (usually clipped to the top of the oven cavity or near the control panel). Some thermostats are manual-reset types with a small button; press gently to reset if present.
  • 4. Test thermostat continuity: With a multimeter, check continuity across the thermostat terminals. An open circuit when the oven is cold indicates a failed thermostat that must be replaced.
  • 5. Check cooling fan: Spin the fan blade by hand (power off). If stiff or seized, replace the cooling fan motor. Check wiring and connectors for heat damage.
  • 6. Control board relay: If the oven continues heating uncontrollably or F2 appears even with a new thermostat and working fan, the oven relay on the control board may be stuck closed. This requires control board replacement.

Warning: Overheating faults can be a fire risk. If the oven appears to heat uncontrollably, do not use it until repaired by a qualified engineer.
