Possible Causes
Faulty door lock motor or solenoid, Failed door position switch, Misaligned door latch, Broken wiring between lock and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains. Do not force the door; you may damage hinges or glass.
- 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door is fully closed and not obstructed by trays or warped seals. Gently lift the door while closing to see if the latch engages more positively.
- 2. Listen for lock operation: On models with an electronic lock (often for pyrolytic cleaning), you should hear a motor or click when starting a cycle. No sound suggests a lock or control issue.
- 3. Access the lock assembly: Remove the top/front trim to reach the door lock mechanism. Inspect for broken plastic parts, loose screws, or misalignment.
- 4. Test the lock switch: With a multimeter, check continuity of the door-closed switch when the lock is engaged. Replace the lock assembly if the switch is open when it should be closed.
- 5. Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the lock to the control board for breaks or chafing, especially where it passes near sharp metal.
- 6. Replace lock assembly: If mechanical damage or switch failure is found, fit a new Rangemaster door lock assembly.
Warning: If the door is locked shut and will not open, consult a professional to avoid breaking the glass or bending the frame.
