Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD), Failed electronic oven control (EOC) not regulating relay, Stuck bake or broil relay on control board, Poor airflow around oven causing heat buildup

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before working on it.

  • Check for obvious overheating: Verify that the oven door closes properly and the gasket is intact. A leaking door can cause temperature swings.
  • Test oven temperature sensor: Locate the temperature sensor probe inside the oven (usually on the back wall). With power OFF, remove the rear panel and disconnect the sensor harness. Measure resistance with a multimeter: at room temperature (~70°F/21°C) it should be around 1050–1100 Ω. If reading is far off or shorted, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect control board relays: With the rear panel removed, visually inspect the EOC for burnt or welded relay contacts. If the bake or broil relay appears damaged, the board must be replaced.
  • Verify installation clearance: Ensure the oven has proper clearance in the cabinet per RCA installation instructions so heat can dissipate.
  • Replace faulty part: Replace the oven temperature sensor (RTD) if readings are incorrect. If sensor is good and F2 persists, replace the electronic oven control board.
