Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Broken sensor wiring harness, Loose sensor connector at control board, Corroded sensor terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before testing or replacing components.
- Locate the sensor: Inside the oven cavity, find the thin metal probe on the back wall. Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector.
- Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, it should be about 1050–1100 Ω. If reading is infinite (open) or very low (shorted), the sensor is bad.
- Check wiring to EOC: If the sensor tests good, remove the rear panel and trace the sensor wires to the control board. Look for pinched, cut, or burned wires. Reseat the connector at the EOC.
- Replace sensor if faulty: Install a new oven temperature sensor compatible with your RCA model. Route the wires away from hot surfaces and sharp edges.
- Control board check: If sensor and wiring are good but F3 persists, the sensor input circuit on the EOC may be defective and the electronic oven control board will need replacement.
