Possible Causes
Food or grease buildup on elements, Foil or plastic melted on element or liner, Failing wiring insulation near elements, Overheating control or fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames, turn off the oven and breaker immediately. Keep the door closed to smother flames.
- Inspect interior: Once cool, remove racks and inspect the cavity, elements, and bottom panel for heavy grease, spills, or foreign materials (foil, plastic).
- Clean thoroughly: Use a non-caustic oven cleaner or baking soda paste to remove grease from the liner and racks. Avoid spraying directly on elements.
- Check elements and wiring: Remove the rear panel and inspect wiring to the bake and broil elements for signs of overheating or melted insulation. Replace any damaged element wiring harnesses.
- Test run: Run the oven empty at 400°F for 20–30 minutes with good ventilation to burn off any remaining residue.
