Possible Causes

Open circuit in lower heating element, Burnt wiring at element terminals, Failed power relay on electronic control board, Overheated terminal block connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the oven from mains power by switching off the circuit breaker or unplugging it. Verify with a non-contact voltage tester before touching any internal parts.

  • Check power supply: Confirm the oven is receiving full mains voltage (usually 230V) at the terminal block. Tighten any loose screws and look for signs of overheating or melting.
  • Inspect lower heating element: Remove the rear panel or access from inside the cavity (depending on Sauter model). Look for blisters, cracks, or burn marks on the bottom element. Test it with a multimeter; a healthy element typically shows a resistance between 20–60 Ω. Replace if open or shorted.
  • Check wiring harness: Trace the wires from the element to the electronic control board. Look for burnt connectors, discolored insulation, or loose spade terminals. Clean and tighten or replace damaged connectors.
  • Test control board relay: With power disconnected, visually inspect the relay solder joints on the control board for cracks or burns. If the element and wiring are good but no voltage is sent to the element when heating is commanded, the relay or board is likely faulty and should be replaced as a complete module.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit all panels, restore power, and test in conventional bake mode. Monitor for proper heating and any unusual smells or noises.
