Possible Causes
Shorted temperature probe (NTC sensor), Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty electronic thermostat circuit on control board, Poor sensor contact with oven cavity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the oven and allow it to cool completely. Disconnect power at the breaker before opening any panels.
- Locate the temperature sensor: In most Sauter ovens, the NTC probe is mounted on the rear wall of the cavity, usually at the top. Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor connector. Measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature; typical values are around 500–1100 Ω (check Sauter service documentation for your exact model). If the reading is very low (near 0 Ω) or infinite, the sensor is faulty.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Look for pinched, burnt, or broken insulation, especially where the harness passes through the rear panel grommet. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Replace the sensor: If readings are out of spec, install a new Sauter-compatible NTC temperature probe. Ensure the probe tip is correctly positioned inside the cavity and the mounting screws are tight.
- Check control board: If a known-good sensor still results in overheating, the electronic thermostat circuit on the control board may be defective. Replace the control board as an assembly.
- Test operation: Restore power and preheat to a moderate temperature (e.g., 180°C). Use an oven thermometer to verify that the actual temperature matches the set temperature within a reasonable tolerance.
