Possible Causes
Open circuit in upper/grill element, Loose or burnt connectors on grill element, Faulty relay on electronic control board, Partially shorted element reducing power
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the oven from mains power before removing any panels or touching wiring.
- Visual inspection of upper element: Remove the oven racks. Inspect the top/grill element for visible breaks, bulges, or burn marks. Any visible damage usually means replacement is required.
- Test resistance: Access the element terminals from the rear or top panel (depending on Sauter model). Disconnect the wires and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to manufacturer specifications; an open circuit indicates a failed element.
- Check connectors: Inspect spade terminals and wiring for heat damage or looseness. Clean oxidized terminals and crimp or replace loose connectors.
- Control board output: If the element tests good, reconnect it and, with extreme caution and proper insulation, check if the control board sends mains voltage to the element when grill or conventional mode is selected. If no voltage is present, the relay or control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing any faulty parts, reassemble panels, restore power, and test preheat time and temperature stability.
