Possible Causes

Shorted NTC temperature sensor, Damaged sensor cable insulation touching chassis, Moisture ingress in sensor head, Shorted connector on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect mains power and allow the oven to cool fully before opening any panels.

  • Visual inspection: Access the rear or top of the oven to locate the NTC sensor wiring. Look for melted insulation, crushed cable, or points where the cable may be rubbing against metal.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect the NTC from the control board. Measure resistance at room temperature. A reading close to 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Compare with expected values from the service manual if available.
  • Check for moisture: If the sensor tip is visibly corroded or has signs of moisture ingress (common after steam cleaning), it may be shorting internally and must be replaced.
  • Inspect PCB connector: Examine the NTC connector on the control PCB for solder bridges, carbon tracking, or debris causing a short. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
  • Replace sensor: If the sensor is shorted or out of spec, remove the mounting screw(s), pull out the probe, and install a new Severin-compatible NTC sensor. Ensure the cable is routed away from hot elements and sharp edges.
  • Test operation: Reassemble, restore power, and run the oven at a low temperature first. Confirm that E1 does not reappear and that temperature control is stable.
