Possible Causes
Defective door switch, Misaligned door latch, Broken door lock actuator, Loose wiring to door switch on Severin control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing any panels. Beware of sharp metal edges around the door frame.
- Check door closure: Ensure the oven door closes fully and evenly. Look for bent hinges or obstructions on the seal.
- Inspect latch and strike: On models with a mechanical latch, verify that the latch engages the strike plate firmly. Adjust the strike plate position if possible.
- Test door switch: Access the door switch assembly (usually behind the front panel or side frame). With power off, remove the switch connector and test continuity while pressing the switch. It should change state (open/close) reliably.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the door switch to the control PCB for breaks or loose connectors. Reseat plugs firmly.
- Replace faulty switch/lock: If the switch does not operate correctly or the lock actuator is broken, replace with the correct Severin door switch or door lock assembly. Transfer any mounting brackets or levers.
- Test operation: Reassemble, restore power, and start a heating cycle. Confirm that E5 does not appear and that heating continues with the door closed.
