Possible Causes
Shorted triac on control PCB, Damaged snubber network, Overvoltage surge, Moisture on PCB causing leakage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power. Solid-state components are on the live side; do not touch when powered.
- Visual inspection: Access the control PCB and locate the triacs (flat, three-legged components often mounted with heatsinks). Look for cracks, burn marks, or exploded packages.
- Check for moisture/contamination: If the board shows signs of grease or moisture, clean carefully with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely.
- Functional test: If the light or fan stays on even when off, the associated triac is likely shorted. Replacement of the triac or entire board is required.
- Replace control PCB: For most users, replacing the complete Severin control module is safer than component-level repair. Transfer all connectors and mount securely.
- Test operation: Restore power and verify that the light and fan operate only when commanded and that F8 is cleared.
